WALL-MOUNTED LEDGE FOR CLAMP LAMP SUPPORT

The Designery Den was equipped with a sleek drafting table made of metal and glass:

It beautifully served its purpose in the busy workplace, but it presented with one caveat: it did not offer suitable surface for drafting lamps to be clamped onto. An alternative solution needed to be found, and none of the adjacent surfaces in reasonable proximity had the required properties for that purpose. Another little new invention was budding from this difficulty.

A narrow wall strip between two of the den’s windows to the right of the table seemed correctly positioned to extend the lamps arm from, if it only had some sort of a ledge at the right height for the clamps to grip to…..

The usual design wheels turned, a quick inventory of available items was done, and it was not long before a solution was found. Existing leftover material from previous projects was used: a piece of EKBY JÄRPEN shelf that remained from another shelving solution (Sitting Room Corner Shelving Solution) was further trimmed to size to fit the narrow wall width where the lamp support piece was to be attached to. A set of EKBY BJÄRNUM shelf brackets completed the piece that was installed just as easily as its ready-made version.

The result was a steady & sturdy mini custom-sized EKBY JÄRPEN/BJÄRNUM shelf, just large enough to clamp a couple of work lamps onto, and – as a bonus – to conveniently hold a pen cup as well. Having utilized leftover materials, this solution was simple and sound and has kept on giving, flawlessly for its intended purpose.

Conclusion

While this small solution to what may have seemed like a small inconvenience is nothing grand in the larger scheme of things, it was something with a significant impact in the daily life of someone who always makes, draws/drafts and implements new design ideas. For it provided an ergonomic feature and smoothness of operation that has been paying off over and over again, day after day. And this is nothing short of worth mentioning.
