DOWNSTAIRS BATHROOM – Brief

The main purpose of this bathroom is to conveniently accommodate frequent usage, both by the house dwellers and their guests.

Durable, easy to maintain and suitable for a moisture room, vinyl sheet flooring in subtle streaks pattern is selected. With its great walking and acoustic comfort, it is an excellent choice for this busy space. The wall coverings are selected appropriately for a lavatory. Ribbed vinyl wall panels that are waterproof, scratch and impact resistant, and UV stabilized against discoloration, are chosen to cover the bottom most splash-prone portion of the walls. The retro graphic wallpaper that is designated for above usual splash level is washable and brings a lively playful feel into the room. The stage is thus set for this sound monochrome-neutral scheme.

Without sacrificing spaciousness, this space offers all of the essentials for this type of bathroom. The toilet and the sink of the basic white bathroom suite are separated through the incorporation of a state-of-the-art resin partition, which features a dynamic criss-cross pattern and allows light penetration in both directions. A large mirrored section strategically reflects light and brightens a darker room corner. An oval stainless steel mirror cabinet and a space-saving column unit provide an adequate amount of storage. A few extra comforts are included such as a chic vanity table with stool (positioned by the window to take advantage of daylight), a classic Eames Hang-It-All rack and a museum style bench to make the utilization of this bathroom space effortless and pleasant.

Stylish vinyl plantation shutters in cotton white are selected for this space. Effortlessly elegant, this type of window treatment has a multitude of properties that makes it suitable for a bathroom. It is moisture resistant with a non-porous, non-absorbent permanent finish with UV protection. The shutters are very easy to clean, less prone to mould and mildew and will not chip, crack, warp, shrink, peel, or fade. Resistant to dents and scratches and very long lasting, they offer great control of light, privacy level and airflow through tilting the rotating slats (louvers).

Two unobtrusive, yet eye pleasing, close-mounted ceiling lamps on a dimmer controlled circuit provide well-distributed ambient lighting in this slightly alley-shaped bathroom. Task lighting is achieved with wall fixtures: a sleek minimalist over-mirror wall lamp at the sink, and a vintage-styled arm lamp at the vanity table, each with its own 2-location switch control. Switched sockets are provided in both afore mentioned task areas. All switches and sockets inside are located in Bathroom Zone 3 as permitted by regulations and are to be implemented to the highest safety standards. ♦
